Elliott Fox respectfully disagrees with poet and playwright, Oscar Wilde’s claim that ‘All art is quite useless’ (1891).
Art needs to be more than just a pretty picture. Art is a powerful and inherent means of communication, which persists after cultures end. Art transcends boundaries and challenges present norms – growing our awareness and understanding of different experiences, perspectives, and ideas. In a modern world saturated with misinformation, complacency, and fear, it is art that is needed more than ever.
Artist Statement
"The love and meaning within my art is to subtly engage people on, often conflicting, emotional and intellectual levels. Based in Canberra, Australia and a passionate advocate for greyhounds, I am a second career emerging artist completing a Diploma of Visual Arts and preparing my debut solo art exhibitions travelling to several cities. I draw on my diversity of background and lived experience to work with several artistic mediums, and using principles of harmony, simplicity and elegance."
Elliott works with art mediums that are layered and multi-dimensional to engage and stimulate the audiences’ senses. This is achieved through his sculptures, textured paintings, and silk screen prints with depth of structure, form and colour.
His visual aesthetic is guided by simplicity and elegance of style. Elliott aims to remove foreground noise and distortion in support of people finding their own harmony and clarity. The Japanese cultural aesthetic is deeply valued by Elliott, including influences from Japanese art, fashion, cuisine, customs, and philosophy.

Past
Elliott has had the benefit of lived experience as a non-English speaking migrant, a gay man, and a person with disabilities. Born in July 1984 (né Lukas Sigut), his family escaped Communism in Czechoslovakia to immigrate to Australia in 1986. Having an unsettled upbringing with conflicting cultural expectations gave Elliott an early appreciation for the value of diversity and the importance of inclusion.
After completing several university qualifications and a 15-year corporate career, Elliott shifted his life purpose and direction to pursue his innate passion for the visual arts.
He is a strong advocate for the prompt phasing out and outlawing of Greyhound Racing (i.e. exploitation of dogs for the purpose of gambling and human entertainment) and better protection and care for greyhounds, and as well as for all animals.
Elliott lives in Canberra, Australia on Ngunnawal/Ngambri Country, where he works, creates, and is a parent to rescue greyhound, Adam Barker.
